Gloria V. Randall

Gloria Vazquez Randall of Clairemont Mesa in San Diego passed on Wednesday evening February 15, 2023. She was surrounded by her immediate family and friends. Her death was caused by a brain injury. She was 80 years old and lived in San Diego for most of her life. She was born in 1942 to Gonzalo and Rosa Vazquez in Mexico City in 1942. She immigrated to the U S after completing High School in Tijuana. A christian since youth she especially loved the Lord’s supper service. A lifetime Bible student she attended the Church God 7th Day in San Diego. Skilled in needlepoint and sewing she made many special cloths for the service. She married Armando Platas 1963. She had two children with her first husband Danny and Elizabeth Platas. Armando passed away in 1972. She married John Randall in 1974. They had one child Rosa Randall and settled in the Clairemont area of San Diego. She worked at Anthony’s Fish Grotto for many years. After leaving Anthony’s she worked for Kaiser Permanente in Environmental services and retired in 2016. Her favorite animal was a rooster and she collected pictures, pottery and chicken or rooster themed items to decorate her home. She was an excellent cook and made all her dishes from scratch. She loved to have a full house during holidays, making her own cider, soups, fish tacos, tortillas, chili rellenos, carne, and the traditional tamales. She was known for her humor, generous spirit, and sharp wit. She made many a meal at home for guests and family when they came by for a visit. She loved to travel and loved the vistas in the Grand Canyon, Sedona, Lake Tahoe and others. She was proceeded by her brother Ramon and her brother Alfonso. She is survived by her brothers David and Ezekiel, her sisters Esther, Celia, and Angelina, her children Danny Platas, Elizabeth Platas, and Rosa Randall. She has many grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her grandchildren are Dominic, Elizabeth, Erika, Joseph, Jessica, Tony, and Enrique. Her great grandchildren are Valeria, Jazzlyn, Alayan and Ayla. A public memorial will be held at the Aztlan Mortuary of La Mesa, Calif. On Wednesday March 1st, 2023 from 5 pm to 9 pm. The burial service will be on Thursday March 2 at El Camino Memorial in Sorrento Valley at 9:00 am. A church memorial and celebration of life will be held in El Cajon at Church of God 7th Day.
