JACK JAMES OWENS

La Mesa - Jack lost his 12 year battle with Multiple System Atrophy on July 18, 2018. He was born on November 27, 1949 to Lillian and Herbert Owens in Washington, MO. The family lived in Gerald, MO, until Jack was 4 years old and then moved to Denver, CO. They lived in Denver until his Junior year in high school and then relocated to San Diego where he attended Clairemont High. Jack graduated from San Diego State in 1972 with a degree in Political Science. He paid his way through college by moving furniture. The work was hard but the pay was good! In 1973, during a family reunion in St. Louis, Jack met his future wife, Margaret Wall (Muffy) at a party. He asked her out the next night and she accepted. They corresponded by mail for over a year and then visited each other. Jack moved to St. Louis and they were married on February 7, 1976. Jack decided that their future would be best in California. They moved back to San Diego in May, 1976. Jack started his career in moving sales. The couple resided in La Mesa and started a family-Patrick born in 1979 and Daniel born on his father’s birthday, November 27th, 1982. Jack worked as a moving consultant or in sales management his entire career and worked for various companies including Ace Relocation Systems, Atlas Transfer & Storage, San Diego Van & Storage, Johnson United and La Mesa Transfer. When he wasn’t working, or being involved in his sons sports activities, he would often assist his wife at her pack and ship store, The Box Shop. Jack helped with fragile packaging and enjoyed talking to the customers. Jack’s passion was soccer. He loved playing the sport but enjoyed coaching it even more. Among the organizations he participated in were AYSO, Hotspurs, Crusaders and Grossmont High School where he coached Freshman and JV soccer. Jack was preceded in death by his parents Lillian and Herbert Owens, step father Frank Kerns, mother-in-law Margaret Will, father-in-law Robert Will, Sr., brother-in-laws Mitchell Wall, Robert Will, Jr. and Timothy Will. He leaves behind his wife of 42 years, Muffy, sons Patrick (Claire) and Daniel, granddaughter Dylan, sister Joan Eakins (George), brother Dennis (Lynn), brother-in-laws Randolph Wall (Ruth), Peter Wall, David Wall (Nancy), James Will (Cathy), sister-in-laws Carol Wall Campoli, Elizabeth Will-Smith, Margaret Will and many nieces and nephews. The family thanks the wonderful staff of Mt. Helix Care Home for the kindness and care they gave Jack these past two years. They are truly angels on earth. Jack was a humble, kind person who loved his family and liked to help others. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. The funeral will be private.
