MANUEL MEDEIROS AZEVEDO

Manuel M. Azevedo was born in Pico Azores, Portugal, on November 3rd 1940. He died on March 14, 2020 He proudly served in the Portugee military from 1959 to 1963 in Mozambique. He had five children Fernanda, Paula, Elizabeth, Tania, and Eric. He demonstrated his love by cooking and giving funny advice. He was a very trendy dresser in his youth. He worked at Nassco from 1973 to 2014, He was a very hard worker and taught by example. He loved to cook traditional Portugese and Mexican food. Cooking was his happy place and where he found flow. He loved to watch soccer on tv and the internet. He adored watching cooking shows and fishing. His idea of fun was to listen and play traditional Portugese music. He loved to play the mandolin, while singing traditional Portugese songs. He also made homemade wine. He loved to help those in need especially those who needed a place to stay or food to eat. He loved it when people ate the food he made and were all happy sitting at the dinner table. Like someone once told me, “ When your dad cooked, sparks flew and happiness filled the air.” He was a devout Catholic. He embraced diversity not only in the cooking fusions he would make ,mostly on a whim, but also in the kind, compassionate, and humorous way he treated others to make them feel at ease. Tania Azevedo (daughter) This is what his family has to say about Manuel My Uncle was like a father to me. He loved to see me. I would send him pictures of my cat , and he of his home cooking. My uncle was born in Portugal and very much appreciated all things Portugues, but also had a great love for Mexican people, culture, music, and of course food. I remember being allowed to sip a little bit of wine at the table while waiting for our dinner to be served. My uncle loved to watch all the soccer games on TV, twenty-four 7, if they’d be on for that long (chuckles) of my favorite memories of us is when he took me down to catch crabs in South Mission Beach. Martha Espinoza (Niece) As a boy, I enjoyed going fishing with my dad. Those must have been some of the most happy moments of my childhood. As I got older, I enjoyed watching and talking about soccer with him. I also really appreciated and enjoyed when he would cook turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Fishing, soccer, and food were the ways we communicated and bonded. Eric Azevedo(Son) We miss you Manuel Azevedo for all your gifts, qualities, and acts of kindness.
